Volvo Penta and Sanlorenzo announced a joint project during the boot Düsseldorf boat show. It concerns two new superyachts - the SX120 and SX132. They will be the first of their kind to be equipped with the IPS Professional Platform. These innovative vessels are expected to hit the market in 2025 and 2027, respectively.

What is the IPS Professional Platform?

The innovative IPS Professional Platform solution offers a unique combination of comfort, power, and sustainability in one integrated package designed for a new generation of vessels. The standout feature of the new IPS platform is the exceptional efficiency of the propulsion system. It allows for up to a 30% reduction in fuel consumption and up to a 50% reduction in noise pollution on board.

The system can integrate between 4 and 8 power sources, combining internal combustion engines with fully electric or hybrid systems. The innovative IPS Professional Platform also includes a new "smart" Eco Mode operating option, which automatically starts and stops each engine based on real-time data from onboard sensors.

The intelligent system aims for several key outcomes. First and foremost, of course, is the reduction of energy consumption and harmful emissions. Furthermore, this optimization helps extend engine life and lower maintenance costs.

Decarbonization of the shipping industry

The IPS Professional Platform is the brainchild of Volvo Penta's environmental corporate philosophy. The project's goal is to provide the necessary boost to the decarbonization of the yachting sector. Equipping the first superyacht with this system is expected to become a reality within 2025. It is no coincidence that the first partner in Volvo Penta's venture is Sanlorenzo. Both companies share common environmental views.
